About Rosewoods Rose Casey

I've been gardening for thirty-four years. I planted my first vegetable garden in 1972 and started working specifically with herbs in the early 80's. As a young girl my first craving to be with Earth emerged walking in the woods, along the shoreline, playing in mud squeezing between my toes. So began my love affair with gardening. I still remember the first tomato seed I planted indoors and the feeling of awe seeing it break through the soil. To this day, I never tire of that first burst of life in the seed beds or gardens.

I minored in biology in college. Of course to no one's surprise I favored botany. I studied with herbalists practicing the Wise Woman Tradition who introduced me to those wonderful ‘weeds’ and the herbal medicines of the people. I've attended several herbal conferences over the years including the International Herb Symposium, Green Nations Gathering and United Plant Savers. I learned first hand from some of the finest herbalists in the nation. I love reading and learning from many written resources. In fact, there are several I highly recommend. I look forward to continuing my educational experiences at future workshops, but primarily from the plants themselves. They teach me daily. And for this I am grateful.

I completed the Master Gardener program in 2003. It was always something I wanted to do even though I had been gardening for years. I learned so much. I hope I continue to learn and experience new teachers all of my life.

I'm convinced that we walk right past some of the most powerful and nutritious plants that are available to us right at our doorstep. I feel an incredible connection to our ancestors who knew plants intimately. I want to be part of the lineage of plant women and do all I can to continue it.

Plants await our acknowledgement and conversation. We simply need to introduce ourselves and they will respond. And let the conversation begin! There are no short cuts. You have to spend time, converse and share experiences. Plants are like people that way.

And so here I am sharing my passion for herbs, gardening and growing plants. I want to simply share and pass on some of my know-how, experiences and insights and those of other herbalists. I encourage you to seek out and learn from them as well. Be sure to check out the resources posted. As with all information, take and use what you read with responsibility. Choose what is useful and discard what is not. Do your own research and apply your own personal experiences. Draw your own conclusions. But whatever you do, be sure to say hello to the wonderful green friends who are saying hello to you.
